What Our
Students Say

Very positive. Mauro is an enthusiastic musician who knows how to engage with students. He is patient with mistakes I made and could adjust the level of complexity of assignments to keep them interesting enough, without simplifying too much. Personal feedback on weak points was very useful and helped me to become a decent amateur musician in a relatively short time. Private lessons are strongly recommended compared to group lessons, as during group lessons one cannot get such feedback within 30 minutes of shared time with other students.

- Sultan, adult ukulele student

Mauro is a great teacher and I have learned a lot from him. He is very patient and encouraging. Mauro has made learning guitar and ukulele fun! He has been my teacher for nearly 3 years now and I love music because of him! Thanks Mauro!

- Nicky, 12 year old guitar student

I took up learning acoustic guitar on my own nearly 2 years ago and found it so satisfying as a hobby. My progress for the first 6 months on my own was slow but still satisfying and then I decided to take lessons with “Tempo Music School”. My instructor was Mauro Angeletta and in a short space of time my improvement was obvious as his teaching abilities are excellent and it is easy to follow his instruction and guidelines. Early on I used to attend the classes on a weekly basis in Drumcondra but when Covid struck I did Zoom lessons from home which now suits me better. I intend to continue with lessons as I am improving all the time and clearly it was a wise decision to start lessons with ” Tempo Music School.

- Liam, adult guitar student

FIVE STARS! 10/10! Cian tells me that Mauro is really good at explaining things and he likes that Mauro is willing to teach him to play a song that he chooses. Mauro really goes above and beyond expectations. He has wonderful patience and enthusiasm. Cian is often curious about the technical aspects and notation and Mauro enjoys answering these questions. There is a lot of moaning about practicing some weeks but there is never any moaning about attending a lesson. I feel very lucky that we have found Tempo, and to have Mauro as his teacher. He has really helped to nurture a love of music in Cian and that is a gift that he will have for a lifetime.

- Juliana, parent

- Sarah Mullen, (TY, Old Bawn Community College)

Hi Robert, I met you with my son Conor at the ‘Bodhrán Beats’ workshop last week in the NCH. He loved it. I am wondering if you would consider giving him some follow up one to one classes over the summer holidays.

- Gloria Watts, (parent of workshop participant)

I recently met Robert O’Connor at a ‘Bodhrán Beats’ workshop at the NCH and my children and I had a thoroughly enjoyable workshop.

- Leanne Willar, (parent of workshop participant)

We organized a Bodhrán Workshop with Rob for a visiting group of colleagues of all levels. They had a blast.  Rob has a great style that immediately puts people at their ease and gets straight into the drumming. The session was fun and highly interactive.

Without realising it he also teaches a little bit of Irish with the “haon, dó, trí”…I would highly recommend him for an Irish or visiting group and we will definitely be using him again.

- Eithne Harley, Large Multinational (nameless due to company policy)

Many thanks for the workshops on Saturday – we really enjoyed them and feedback from the participants was great.

- Claire McDonagh, Education Community and Outreach, National Concert Hall

The Bodhrán Module in Transition Year is a very worthwhile and enjoyable course, introducing students to the world of traditional music with the Bodhrán. Students have always had a great experience and look forward to the end of year performance at the TY Graduation.  The Bodhrán module brings artistic variety and cultural appreciation to our TY course and provides a valuable foundation for students to develop their skills of Bodhrán playing.

- Catherine Blighe, TY Co-ordinator, St Josephs College, Lucan

Hi Robert, they had a ball and the performance was very impressive. We would love you to work with the girls again, thanks again.

This has been my first successful return to music classes since my childhood. Rob is an encouraging, helpful and enthusiastic teacher.

- Marguerite Murphy, Drumcondra, March 2013

The lessons are really fun. I am learning a lot. Rob is a great teacher.

- James, Drumcondra (10 years old) April 2013

Rob has developed an excellent rapport with a child who, up to now, had not succeeded with other music teachers. My son now looks forward to his music lesson and has finally found an area of music which he can enjoy at his own pace. I would highly recommend his classes.

- James Mum, April 2013

I found Rob’s lessons and his approach in general very good and easy to follow. He assessed the level I was at and continued the lessons at a pace I was comfortable with. He also recommended some tunes I could play along to when practicing by myself. I would highly recommend Rob as a teacher for anyone considering bodhrán lessons.

- Ciaran, Switzerland, April 2013

This has been my first successful return to music classes since my childhood. Rob is an encouraging, helpful and enthusiastic teacher.

- Marguerite Murphy, Drumcondra, March 2013

Such a great set of workshops. The girls really enjoyed them, and many parents commented on them at the P&T meeting last Thursday. We will definitely arrange something again for next years 4th year!

- Nickola Dempsey, Holy Child Killiney, March 2013

Tempo Music School supported us with our Summer Camp through an introduction to Bodhrán workshop. Although the group of Young People were reluctant to get involved with other workshops during our camp, Rob’s approach to engaging the group ensured the group got the most from the session. Rob facilitated the session at a pace that encouraged learning in a fun way. We would highly recommend Tempo Music School.

-Mike Farrell – Naas Youth, Project Leader Kildare Youth Services 7/2012

I was at the Summer Camp this year and did drumming and I was helping the teacher so I was kind of the teacher too so he was a good teacher. It was some laugh and now I can play the drum.

- Courtney, (Age 11) Naas Summer Camp 7/2012

Having never played the bodhran before, nor being particularly familiar with traditional Irish music, I was very apprehensive to begin lessons even though I was adamant I wanted to learn. At one point I thought I could teach myself via videos on YouTube…this was not the case. Fortunately for those around me I came across Tempo Music School.

I was almost nervous walking into my first lesson, however straight away Robert put me at ease by creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. …with zero knowledge of basic rhythms I never felt lost during any of the lessons….Not only did I thoroughly enjoy learning the bodhran, I am now able to play to a standard I did not think possible after just 10 lessons. I would highly recommend Tempo Music School for anyone, young or old, who is seeking to learn to play the bodhran.

- Joanne Daly, Dublin, 8/2012

I attended Rob’s bodhrán workshop, at Rush Scoil Samhraidh. Straight off he put us at our ease even though there were students of different abilities in the class. I have been learning the bodhrán for a number of years and have a number of hearing difficulties (amusia). This did not faze Rob, I was amazed to learn that it was some of the basic things about music that I did not know. He was very patient, demonstrated new beats and the construction of tunes. By enlightening me with the basic music theory that I didn’t know, I feel my playing jumped up a couple of levels immediately. It was a fun, worthwhile experience and I would wholeheartedly recommend Rob as a teacher to anyone interested in learning the bodhrán or music in general

- Kara, Swords, 7/2012

Tempo Music School facilitated four excellent bodhrán workshops for our transition year students as part of a cultural module. The students had made their own bodhráns and Tempo Music prepared the group to perform at their ceremony. The workshops were a huge success and the result was an amazing performance for their parents and staff.

- Ms Martin, St Tiernans Community School, Dundrum, 6/2012

My name is Kevin O’Connor, I’m 12 years old and have been a student at Robert O Connor’s bodhrán classes for the past year. I joined as I always had an interest in percussion and traditional Irish music. I was made feel very welcome from the beginning and enjoyed all the classes. Roberts experience and excellent teaching skills meant that I very quickly gained confidence and could play along to Jigs,Slip Jigs,Reels,Polkas etc. all of which were emailed to us after the class for practice at home. Robert was also very helpful with advice when it came to purchasing my own bodhrán. I look forward to continuing bodhrán lessons in the future.

- Kevin O’Connor, Dublin 5, 5/2012

Having never played the bodhrán before, I was amazed how much I could learn in a few weeks when learning in a group. It was very therapeutic too, drumming in time with other people(eventually in time anyway!). Robert was great in encouraging us all and the class was great fun with all age groups covered. I’m signing up for another term anyway!

- Albert Baker, Drumcondra, 5/2012

Learning the bodhrán with Robert was a great experience, considering that when I arrived, I was barely able to hold the beater. He provided me with a wide diversity of rhythms, enough to cover the register of a session. He helped me choosing my own bodhrán, and made me listen to several artists in order to widen my playing. He even offered me his own CD ! I would recommend him to anyone willing to learn traditional music in a funny atmosphere, as he can play the flute as well.

- Nils Staub, France, 4/2012

Excellent workshops which appealed greatly to all students. Children were engaged from start to finish, listening, responding, composing their own rhythms. Tempo Music encouraged and nurtured the students musical talents.

- Ms Tully, St. Aidan’s Community School, Tallaght

It was important that the students would have fun but have a real learning experience too. Tempo Music Schools program delivered this to our 4-7 year old’s. The music was taught using colour, texture, humour, dance and games. We’ve booked the program again for 2012.

- Lucinda Pachkam, School Completion Program

I took beginner flute lessons with Robert and I found him very patient and helpful. He pitched the lessons at the right level. He was very professional but also made me feel at ease. I would highly recommend Tempo.

- Anita, Dundrum

I took tin whistle lessons with Robert and found him to be a great teacher, very patient and clear with great teaching methods and tunes for learning. I would definitely recommend him to anyone interested in learning music.

- Ciara, Rathmines

I took Bodhrán lessons with Robert. I was a little apprehensive at first but Robert made me feel very relaxed. He went out of his way to help me giving me sheet notes and a CD so I could practice at home…

- David, Donabate

Tempo Music facilitated three fun, engaging and interactive workshops to our first year classes. Each student had a wonderful musical experience resulting in a very impressive performance and a great sense of achievement. Many of the students who attended the workshop have since taken up guitar, bodhrán and djembe lessons which are held after school once a week.

- Yvonne Beardsley, School Completion Program, Ballinteer Community School

The percussion workshop facilitated by Rob was enjoyed tremendously by our young people. An excellent variety of musical instruments, styles and rhythms were offered during the program and taught in a patient, friendly and fun manner. Our young people were encouraged to explore their musical potential and later performed a showcase of short percussive pieces at our annual Christmas show which stood out as a highlight. The program was a fun and educational introduction to different musical genres and performance for 10 year old’s (or above) and we highly recommend it.

- Dave Jackson, Youth Work Co-ordinator, City of Dublin YMCA

I enjoyed an outstanding Bodhrán workshop from Robert. He was not only a talented musician but very knowledgeable in theory and techniques. His teaching method was easy to follow and he catered to my abilities. As a bonus, Robert was an extremely friendly individual who went out of his way to assist me in any way outside of the workshop. He personally drove me to the factory where instruments were being manufactured so that I could pick one up for myself and he invited me to play with his musician colleagues at a local pub. If you want music lessons in Dublin, Robert is definitely the man to see.
